Website Design

A site that looks sharp and earns its keep.

Every page has one job: turn a visitor into an enquiry. Built to a performance budget, wired for measurement from day one.

What you get

  • A design system, not a one-off layout — components you can extend without a designer
  • A page structure built around the searches and questions that precede a purchase
  • Conversion paths designed before visuals, not decorated afterwards
  • Performance budgets set before design begins and enforced at deploy
  • Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA
  • Schema markup on every template
  • Analytics and conversion tracking wired up at launch, not bolted on later

The problem we usually find

Sites that were designed to be approved rather than to be used. Every internal stakeholder got their section, the homepage carousel exists because someone insisted, and the actual job — turn a visitor into an enquiry — was never anyone's specific responsibility.

The symptoms are consistent: a homepage trying to speak to five audiences, no page that matches what an ad promised, a contact form asking for eleven fields, and a mobile experience that was checked once at the end.

How we approach design

Structure before styling

What pages need to exist, what each one is for, and what a visitor should do on it. This comes out of what people actually search for and what they need answered — not out of an org chart.

One job per page

Every page has a primary action. Pages with three equally-weighted calls to action get a fraction of the response of pages with one, because a choice is a delay and a delay is an exit.

Answer the objection on the page

What it costs, how long it takes, what happens next, why you're credible. Most sites make people work to find these, or hide them behind an enquiry, which loses the people who weren't going to ask.

Build to a performance budget

Under two seconds to largest contentful paint on mobile, minimal JavaScript, no layout shift. A design that can't hit the budget gets changed before it ships, not optimised afterwards.

What happens after launch

A site is a starting position, not a finished object. Care plans cover hosting, updates and small changes; conversion work keeps improving what it does. The sites that keep performing are the ones that get revisited.

Who this is for

Businesses whose site is losing them work — because it's slow, unclear, dated, or built to impress rather than convert. If you need custom functionality or integration with other systems, see Website Development.

Common questions

How long does a website take?

Most marketing sites run six to ten weeks from scoping to launch. The variable is rarely design or build — it's content and approvals. Projects that stall almost always stall waiting for copy, photography or a decision from someone who wasn't in the kick-off.

Will we be able to update it ourselves?

Yes, for the things you'll actually want to change — text, images, adding pages of an existing type. What we don't hand over is the ability to break the layout, because sites given unrestricted editing tend to degrade within a year.

Do you use templates?

We use a design system, which isn't the same thing. Components are consistent and reusable so the site stays coherent as it grows and costs less to extend. What we don't do is buy a theme and change the colours.

What about hosting and maintenance?

Hosting is included in a care plan covering updates, backups, monitoring and small changes. You can host it yourself if you'd rather — the site is yours and it's portable.

Can you redesign without losing our search rankings?

Yes, and it requires planning that's easy to skip: URL mapping, redirects, preserving the content that ranks, and index monitoring after launch. Traffic loss after a redesign is common and almost always avoidable.

What if we already have a site that's fine?

Then we'll say so. Plenty of sites don't need rebuilding — they need the conversion path fixed, which is faster and cheaper. See Conversion Engineering.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. We'd rather earn the next month than trap you in the current one. Thirty days' notice, and your accounts stay in your name throughout.

Who actually does the work?

The team you meet. We're a small, senior team — you won't be handed to a junior after the sale.
